Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied

himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8).

These are some of the best words in all of Scripture. Have you stopped to think about them? Take a minute right now and read them again. This is the humility and love of Christ, that he would leave heaven, humbling himself from the highest authority to a place of humiliation and death. He did all of this so that God could be glorified and so that we could be reconciled to God. What an amazing thought! We are called in this passage to have the same mind that Christ had when he humbled himself to die for us. We are called to have a humility and love in interacting with others, to be humbled in worship before our great God and Savior.

This does not come easy to us, especially when we lack in our worship of Jesus. One thing that I have been so encouraged by since I have been pastor of New Hope is the amazing love that exists in our church. There is a love for one another that does not exist in every church. We take the example of Jesus in this love. Megan and I have been caught up into this love as we have joined this family (as I was reminded by one member) and for that we are so grateful.

Though it is easy to love those who love us back, I pray that our love would continue to grow more like Jesuslove. Jesus did not only love those who were easy to love or who loved him back, but He loved those who scorned him, beat him, mocked him, betrayed him. Jesus loved his enemies. I pray that we could have this mind that Jesus had, humbling ourselves in love for one another, even when it is not easy. As I write these words, I have deep conviction in my heart for where I have not loved well, but I know that God is making me more like Jesus everyday. I pray that He is making you more like Him too.

Joe Woodard joined us on October 20th to tell us about the ministry they have with brining hope and love to hurting teenagers living on the streets. As apart of this ministry they give out Christmas cards with a personal message and $5 gift card to McDonalds included. Pick up the cards on the table in the hall way if you would like to be apart of this wonderful outreach. We will collect the cards through November 17th. Contact the Church office for more information.
